What’s with this name?
I’m sure many are familiar with the term “crunchy” or “granola” to describe those mamas who tend to engage in babywearing, attachment parenting, cloth diapering, baby led weaning, etc. I consider myself a crunchy mama and I naturally bring these philosophies to my dental practice. I created this blog to give voice to my views on dentistry through a crunchy mama lens.
How crunchy am I? It is definitely a spectrum, so it’s a good question. Some might actually consider me very crunchy, while others might think I’m not even worthy of the title.
I had 2 natural hospital births (although I was on pitocin for my first, long story) with a midwife and doula. I’m kind of addicted to babywearing (I have 2 ring slings, a mei tai, 3 soft-structured carriers, and a wrap). Breastfeeding is a priority for me and I follow the WHO guidelines for a timeline of 2 or more years. I practice EC (elimination communication) and cloth diapering (although with my second I definitely integrated disposables into the mix). My kids bed share and I love waking next to those adorable little faces! I’m a big proponent of natural and alternative medicine and consider myself an integrative practitioner, using the best from alternative and conventional medicine/dentistry.
I’m not here to defend my parenting choices and I’m a firm believer in mama knows best, however you do things. No judgment to those who think differently. I place my ways of doing things here so that you can know my background and where I come from.
Now that you know me a bit better, I hope you come back for dentistry-related posts to come!
